Peter MacKay: Stephen Harper helped save conservative movement — and country

Peter MacKay/National Post: His ability to master the partisan political side of the job happened through force of will, not a burning desire to seek the public spotlight or adulation. In my experience, Harper was more at ease in smaller groups, like the cabinet room, or poring over documents, so he could master large, complex issues and formulate policy. I don’t believe we have had a more cerebral and intellectually gifted prime minister in my lifetime…
