Keeping at bay the dangers of AI

The Globe and Mail: Prof. Hinton won’t give his own estimate for the likelihood of an apocalyptic or extinction-type scenario. But he says that, based on a range of opinions, the best expert guess is 10 or 20 per cent.

Which could make AI one of the most dangerous technologies ever invented. It is far too risky to leave its development and rollout in the hands of the techno-libertarians of Silicon Valley. Even short of a cataclysmic future, AI will lead to employment and social upheavals.
