Carney’s Davos speech helped ‘stiffen spines,’ but PM will have to make tough choices to protect Canada’s sovereignty, say two former cabinet ministers

The Hill Times: John Manley, who served in former prime minister Jean Chrétien’s cabinet, said that, given the Trump reality, the next steps will be for Carney (Nepean, Ont.) to take, and it will be difficult.

“This is not all going to be easy,” said Manley. “We can’t keep borrowing our way to prosperity. So, we’re going to have be investing in some things at the expense of others and step on a few toes—from political leaders to Indigenous leaders—to get some of our most accessible mineral and energy resources to coastlines if we want to diversify our international markets.”
