Carney expects Trump to ‘respect Canadian sovereignty’ after Alberta separatists met with U.S. officials

Toronto Star: Carney did not share the expressions of outrage from some premiers, with British Columbia’s David Eby doubling down on his assertion that the conversations amounted to “treason.”

But the prime minister said he is “always clear” in speaking with the U.S. president — who has repeatedly discussed annexing Canada into the United States — that he should respect Canada’s independence and authority over its own territory. 

“I expect the U.S. administration to respect Canadian sovereignty. I’m always clear in my conversations with President Trump to that effect,” Carney said, adding in French that this is his expectation “at all times, without exception.”…
