The Liberal Party reportedly polled on Canadians’ fears to design their 2025 Federal Election campaign that would see them return to power for a 4th consecutive term.
Right after Donald Trump won the 2024 US General Elections, the Office of the Prime Minister (PMO) under Justin Trudeau quietly ordered the Privy Council Office (PCO) to run confidential focus groups in 7 provinces.
The polls tested for tariff fears, mass layoffs, support for border crackdowns, defence spending, and “Stand up to America” messaging. The documents seen by Blacklock’s Reporter suggest the Liberals weaponized fear of Trump and tariffs to radically turn around their political fortunes.
Since 2021, Ipsos polling has shown the Conservatives consistently leading in the polls. And although the Liberals were able to narrow this gap with the election of Mark Carney as the new leader of Liberal Party, the Conservatives remained well-positioned for a decisive victory in the 2025 Federal Elections.
